How to play Neon Centipede

Neon Centipede is a neon-soaked take on the arcade classic. A glowing centipede snakes in from the top of the screen, weaving through a field of mushrooms and dropping one row closer every time it hits an obstacle. Your ship patrols the bottom zone, and here is the twist that makes it deliciously tense: every segment you shoot turns into a mushroom and splits the centipede in two, so one careless body shot can double your problems. Mushrooms block the centipede's path but also block your lasers, and each one takes four hits to clear. Destroy every last segment to advance to a faster, longer wave.

Controls

On desktop, fly with the arrow keys or WASD, or let the ship follow your mouse. Press Space or click to fire. On phones and tablets, drag anywhere on the game area to steer and tap to shoot. The ship stays inside the glowing boundary at the bottom, which is also where the spider likes to hunt — keep moving.

Tips & strategy

It is fun because every shot is a gamble: the head is worth 100 points and splits nothing, while body shots pay only 10 and spawn a second centipede. Pro tip: snipe the head whenever you have a clean lane, and only split the swarm when you have room to handle two fronts. Do not let mushrooms pile up inside your zone — a flea drops from the top when your area gets sparse, raining fresh mushrooms as it falls. The bouncing spider is worth 300 points if you can tag it, but touching it costs a ship, so shoot it from a distance.

Scoring

Head shots score 100, body segments 10, each mushroom hit 1 point with a 4-point clear bonus, the flea 200, and the spider 300. Every cleared wave pays a 250-point bonus multiplied by the wave number. You get 3 ships per run, and your best score is saved in your browser.
